BUSH DIARY MAY 1994:

5-7: Moonrise in Barrow.  We hit the jackpot, all eight boxes we had shipped from the Lower 48 arrived!  Whee! " Hello, Taxi?  Send one to the Post Office, please."  They sent a van and we looked like the clown car at the circus.  Eight boxes in back with Tim's heinie flashing pedestrian's. I squashed in front with a nine box containing the new Sony system.  Urk.

Work: The village trip got called off so husband tore into the Sony system to set up. Much happy.

Got caught up at work, it was a slow period. Judy got all but three charts coded and processed from April left over's.  There were two births and one death all nicely taken care off whilst I was gone.  Saw Judy for about five minutes at the PO as she was on her way to Sitka for the state meeting and then onto Boise for a couple of weeks.  If it sounds like everyone takes a lot of vacation, it is true, vacation accrues at about two days per month and then a bit so you can accumulate  a month of vacation by the end of the year.

Computer: The daily data base backup has not worked since May First.   The computer system has had to be booted up every morning. Marie Caruso said the error message indicated a hard disc problem, so one is coming the mail!!  It  arrived here on the 13th and Marie gave me directions on installing the thing and doing the computer stuff over the phone AND her phone number.  Thanks Marie!  I went in Friday night to do the install.  Couldn't' get it to work.  Marie said disassemble and send it back.  Arghhh!

BOOKS I PURCHASED:  "Like Water For Chocolate"  I am in love with the recipes and I want to taste Chiles in Walnut sauce. Sounds yummy!!!

RECIPES:  Thumbed through Grandma Horn's old Home Comfort Range cookbook while in Idaho.  She got the stove as a replacement when they moved from Missouri to Colorado.  I looked at the recipe for pumpkin pie and there is only one difference, the old recipe calls for a tablespoon of melted butter mixed in the pie mix.  I don't think it makes much difference.  This recipe makes a nice firm pie, one which when cut you can hold in one hand for munching.  I purely HATE non firm pumpkin pie especially if the recipe calls for nutmeg.  If you like the taste of soap, go ahead.  Ugh.  There were recipes for other pies as well, fruit and creme pies.  Nice.  Direction are cook until done.  Yep that holds up well, but an hour at 350 does the trick.

POTLUCK FRIDAY:  5-37 Patrick Pendleton is leaving for the summer to look for the drug Sygen.  He has Marfan's Syndrome, a connective tissue disorder.  This can result in aorta's shredding and that is a bad thing. Patrick had an aneurysm a couple years ago and had his aorta replaced in a long operation.  As a result of this operation part of his lower spinal cord was without adequate blood supply.  He has partial paralysis.  He read about a Jets player who had Sygen for an injury. So Patrick is hoping the Sygen helps with his spinal cord and lots of physical therapy.

Recipe from the Home Comfort Range cookbook
Apple Cream Pie
One pie crust
1 large peeled grated apple
2 eggs separated, white reserved and beaten later
3/4 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/2 tsp nutmeg, or cinnamon if you find nutmeg soapy
Bake 350 until oven set about 40 minutes
Remove and cool. Serve with sweetened whipped cream.  Tastes good!

Busy week:
5-23 tried like heck to get caught up.  Two babies born over the weekend, chased paper for a couple of days trying to get the certificates done.  One DOA, coroner's case.
5-24 work piling up can't get to dictation
5-25 light at end of tunnel still can't do dictation
5-26 got the dictation caught up.

5-27: Epidemiologist from Fairbanks visited and wants all sorts of data retrieved from the Q-Man program.  Got about ten reports done for him.  Forgot we had a never computer system since the last time he requested stuff.  So happy to help him with his Doctoral thesis.

Gossip: Glo A is filing for a divorce after ten years.  He wants it, she doesn't.  Sad.

Gack! One of our nurses had to make a mad dash to Idaho to see her husband.  He fell at work and impaled himself on some rebar, went through his back and missed all major organs and bones.  Ugh.

Judy and Dean have bought a house on the Kenai peninsula.  She is taking some time to get her house packed up to be ready to be sold and to get a Conex to ship major contents to their house in Kenai.  That only takes a couple of weeks actually. Dean is already there putting finishing touches on the house.  He is an incredibly talented finish carpenter.

Busy dream:  I went with my sister to a Mormon church which was in full swing with a church wedding.  I remember kids teasing each other with Elder in front of their names.  One kid yelled he would be called Elder Berry.  My sister had baked a cake to give to someone.  It was round like a big marble.  Then we visited a blue room and listened to a discussion about the meaning of the blue room.  Blue represented God's vast ocean something something for mankind.  Huh?  My sister said she thought it represented something else.  Then I woke up.  Erk.  No idea what THAT represents.

5-30: Spent the morning washing clothes and writing stuff , just a lazy day.

I made the Apple cream pie and took it to work.  It got RAVE reviews. Called Mom and she told me so.  Delish.

Talked to Carla over the weekend, she is headed to Minnesota, Cincinnati and Akron for interviews.  The job is exactly what she needs at twice the price.

Okay that is it for the Merry, Merry Month of May.
