news from home

Occasionally I check the Messenger Index.  One of the news articles was that supplies had been donated to the school Art Class.  There was no such critter when I attended good old EHS unless you count the bathroom graffiti.  I would have cheerfully maimed for an art teacher.  Guess there never was an art teacher grateful enough to spend a year in the district to teach perspective to the ignorant.
I would even consider auditing such a class that would be true Senior Citizen fun, I think.   I just read a book called the art forger, where an artist is stuck painting genuine copies of classics and her boss contracts her to copy one of the missing Vermeers from the 90's Isabella Stewart Gardner museum.  The artists gives intense study to doing a faithful copy how to fake a 17th century canvas/board, how to fake the translucent layers for which Vermeers are famous and ultimately she becomes convinced that she is copying an actual forged copy because she noticed that a few strokes are done opposite of what Vermeer himself had actually painted.  Of course there was a plot twist or two but the story turned out well.  There is still hope among the Art lovers that the paintings are in hiding and not being ruined hidden in some ones cellar after all these years.  I think there is still a five million dollar reward.  So be on the look out for yard sales.
