BUSH DIARY JUNE 1994:
6-4 Nice Saturday. Tim is leaving tomorrow for Anaktuvuk Pass. The only way to get there from Barrow is to fly to Fairbanks, overnight and then hop skip and jump on a bush plane. Glad it is not me.
Tim was gone all week until Friday. They left for Fairbanks and had to wait for three different flights due to FOG!! He went to Anchorage twice and to Fairbanks three times. Well, there is mileage piling up.
We are having Blanket Toss (Nalukatuk) 24th, 27th and 29th. Arranged thus so all the whaling captains can have celebrations for Spring Festival. Lois Anderson said her favorite way to pickle muktuk is to throw in a bunch of Jalapeno peppers. I would also add garlic. How about that, Tex/Mex Muktuk!
Have decided to have Judy's retirement noon the 23rd. We all pitched in to get her a small baleen basket. About 300 bucks. You can figure the cost per inch in diameter. I used a some of my gift bags starting with the smallest, going larger until I get to the biggest, a total of eight bags, it will be entertaining.
Carla was hired for something Value in Cayuhoga Falls, Ohio. She might accidentally call the place Gehugada Falls. It's a family trait.
My five plants are doing nicely. I finally chopped down the jungle in my Tupperware jungle.
House Dream: I found a new room called the Rose Room. It was a rather old fashioned kitchen. There were also a lot of people about it looked like a tour. One side of the room was a long wall of glass door which looked like they belonged in an old fashioned underground subway. Also was looking for space to complete some math and I would NEVER deliberately set out to take up such a task. Eeek.
Jury Duty strikes: I finally officially made the list which in Alaska they pull names from voter rolls and Dividend Fund rolls. My group number was called Tuesday and sat through a day long process of jury selection. I was selected after six jurors were dismissed. I stayed all day and returned the next day. I retried the sum of $12.50 which we are required to turn in to the Borough. No biggie. Anyway the defendant was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance and attempting to obstruct the judicial process at grand jury. (He beat up his significant other to keep her from testifying against him). Oh my. My hitch this year is for three months. I should say each year.
New glasses. Got new ones last week. I got ultra light lenses. I look normalish.
Chicken pox? Tim broke out in the most beautiful chicken pox like bunch of pustules. We made a trip to ER but test came back not viral so he has some other crud. Eeeee.
Dang: A load of clothes came out with oil stains, one of the seals on the washer broke and made nasty. So re-wash and pray maintenance can fix!!
Somebody else traveling dream. Some friends were taking a cruise and their state room was very posh. Glorious view out of the windows. I was given a handful of scrip for the casino. The only game I could find was a roulette wheel. Apparently it was a place your bet, they would spin the wheel later and let me know if I won. What!? Then the Mardi Gras parade started.
Tim went in for checkup and Dr. Kussy allowed as how he thought he just might have Chicken Pox and put him on ten days of Dicloxicillin. He got a work excuse for the whole week.
I went to Alma's for a hair cut. The lady who cut my hair gave a lovely cut but the shampoo was so vigorous that I finally joked that I would pay her extra to stop that. I told her that I had a tender scalp (not usually).
Charlie called they got the check and are home owners. I was mistaken about first and last months rent. They purchased a condo in Sonoma. Yay, making mortgage payments and paying taxes like good solid citizens. Hooray!!!
Jury duty 27th. 90 jurors crammed into the courtroom, took 45 minutes just to take roll call. They had only interviewed less than half of the 13 jurors empaneled. This is the case where the doctor's friend assaulted her. Spent two days waiting for the lawyers to perform void dur if I spelled that correctly. I was hoping to be picked so I could excuse myself because I knew the doctor. Nope, had to sit out an extra two days before the remaining jurors were excused. Oy!!
Thursday: Judy's last day. She was way too cheerful, hugs and kisses on her way to the plane to Kenai. Now I wonder if it will be 18 months for her replacement.
That's all for now, you are excused..
