COUPLE OF THINGS.....

I work in a cubicle now. We needed space to put some old archived records while the newest associate (Portia)sorts through newer records to interfile with the older records in order to make room on the shelves. Oregon law allows us to destroy medical records that have been inactive for ten years. So we don't have to keep them as long as say the Federal Government. Want to know what "temporary storage" is defined as ? Fifty years.

I recently had an important piece of mail go missing. I was notified that it got mailed on Tuesday the 16th. Nothing by Friday,Saturday or the following Monday or Tuesday. After a worried phone call, I got to thinking. Since we have a mail slot that goes through the outside of the house to the inside, maybe something got stuck somewhere. I put my hand way up inside the all as far is it would go and felt wires that go to the light switch, and possibly a spider web or too, yeach.

I peered closely at the bottom, sealed with wall paper and searched for possible openings. I then thought maybe it slipped out on the floor. Took a closer look near the floorboards and sure enough there along with a small flyer was the important piece of mail. I decided that the stunning cardboard flap that previously covered the mail opening would have to be upgraded. I scrounged around in the kitchen and eyeballed the rectanglar metal strainer hanging up on the wall. Hmmm.

Darling man dug out the hammer, the awl and the collections of nails, nuts, bolts, screws and cup hook. Tap, tap, turn, turn, viola!

So a couple of cup hangers for the bottom and the upper handle fits the hook on the upper end of the mail opening. We now have new mail slot holder. And of course on the heavy mail days we will be scanning around the floor boards a bit more carefully.

Stand down the alert, thanks.

Very ingenious! Lady McGiver.
Just wondering, if this mail slot is in an outside wall, did you find any insulation in your scavenger hunt?

No insulation, this house was built in the 20's, any insulation that MIGHT be there would be old shredded newspapers. R
