EASTER SUNDAY
EASTER SUNDAY:
I used to attend First Christian Church with Grandma Horn. We have also attended at least one Sunrise Service. I was held in the City Park. There was a bandshell for the choir and celebrants. The Kiwanis usually served a pancake breakfast for a small fee. There were usually plenty of picnic benches and hot coffee. Very enjoyable.
I was just talking with Christy one of the Davita nurses about the number of churches within in walking distance from my house; there is the Community Christian, church, a fundamental church of some kind, the New Beginnings church, a Latino church most likely Catholic and the Lutheran church which unfortunately has closed. The Methodist church by the courthouse purchased the building. The grade school is using part of it for daycare, parishioners use a room for quilting. The Baptist church is close because the pastor showed up my door one morning. The first thing out of his mouth was, “How do you feel about going to Hell?” I was surprised and could have mentioned that I did not think that was a good way to win friends for Christ. Then I thought to say that it would be okay if he was not there. But I was polite. He left convinced that I needed to be saved. I personally find Islam attractive as well as Wiccan. Occasionally we get Mormon folk out visiting. I really enjoy visiting with ladies. I am not precisely sure if there is a Mormon church in Coquille. There was a Mormon church in Barrow.
I told her that this is very similar to Emmett. Lots of local churches. The Catholic church purchased the old Wardwell school block and sold bits of it to the Bank and the City Library, both worthy institutions. The Methodist and Baptist church are side by side on the north side of the bank, library. A few years ago I toured a lovely old church near the high school. Carla was looking at it as a possible future home It was gorgeous. A couple homes east of the Catholic church is the church where a co-workers mother had her funeral. One of the ladies right in back of me had the most beautiful voice. I have always held that to make a joyful noise unto the Lord is wonderful but occasionally needs devine HELP..
Easter egg hunts: When I lived in Barrow, Alaska I read about an easter egg hunt held in Anchorage. Springtime in Alaska is not always 40 below but it is still pretty cold, snowy and moosey. One hunt was held and it snowed heavily. The kids were getting lost in the deep snow. The hungry moose came to be disappointed with the plastic Easter baskets. The combination of deep snow, lost kids and hungry moose with calves was deemed too dangerous and the hunt was canceled. It took Search and Rescue three hours to find the lost child.
Happy Easter! I gotta do taxes now.
